The facility was a three room U-shaped school, constructed of Arizona red brick with white trimmed transom windows. The oak floors were tongue and groove, and, the blackboards were real slate. Two roll-down room dividers separated the three rooms and a small stage in the center room was equipped with an abbreviated fly loft. In 1936-37, rest rooms and two more classrooms were added to the rear of the building.
The historic Rittenhouse Elementary School in Queen Creek, AZ, was accepted by the National Register of Historic Places in 1998. It served the community as the only elementary school from 1925 to 1982. The facility currently serves as the home and museum for the San Tan Historical Society.
